Ultium Cells to expand battery production by 40 percent in Tennessee plant


Ultium Cells,  the shower lamina manufacturing joint venture of LG Energy Solution and GM, plans to invest an spare $275 million in its Spring Hill, Tennessee plant to expand the facility’s shower lamina output by increasingly than 40 percent, from 35 GWh to 50 GWh. The visitor put $2.3 billion into the facility in April 2021.

With the spare investment, the topics expansion is expected to create 400 new jobs, bringing the expected plant total to 1,700 jobs when the facility is fully operational.

The facility will supply shower cells to GM’s Spring Hill turnout plant for the production of the Cadillac LYRIQ and other GM Ultium-based EVs.

Production is expected to uncork in late 2023.

“This investment will indulge us to provide GM with increasingly shower cells faster and support its warlike EV launch plan in the coming years,” said Tom Gallagher, Ultium Cells VP of Operations. “Ultium Cells is taking the towardly steps to support GM’s plan for increasingly than 1 million units of EV topics in North America by mid-decade.”
